How supermarkets sell to you

Article Abstract:

Supermarkets now have to try harder to win customers, because people are busier than ever, eat out often, and rank convenience as a priority. Consumers should be aware of the methods supermarkets employ to curry favor. Special lighting is used to make produce and meats look fresher, gentle music is piped in to encourage shoppers to linger, and displays are positioned in places that promote impulse-buying. In order to resist such tactics, shoppers should always shop with a list and a calculator, and never shop when hungry.
