Common problems

Article Abstract:

A question and answer format explores common queries and errors concerning the completion of UK self-assessment tax forms. Issues often queried include procedures following the sale of a house, the decision to begin self-employment, or the reclamation of tax deducted at source on investment earnings. Some of the common errors relate to the supplementary pages of the tax return. Taxpayers may fail to fill out separate supplementary pages for different employments, for example, or they give the price of a company car rather than the taxable benefit.

Article Abstract:

There are currently different types of tax return for different sorts of taxpayer in the UK. The Form P1 is the most straightforward type of tax return, being used for employees whose tax affairs are not complicated. Form 11P is mostly for employees with more complicated tax affairs, while Form 11 is mainly for the self-employed. It is important to fill in a tax return, as failure to do so may be interpreted by the Inland Revenue as an effort to conceal income.
