Safe assumption

Article Abstract:

The lack of a central authority monitoring product safety in Australia makes most regulatory action reactive rather than preventive. Placing more responsibility on manufacturers and suppliers would improve this fractured system. A central clearing-house for safety information is needed.

Padlocks: size matters

Article Abstract:

Twenty-five 40mm key-operated padlocks sold in Australia were assessed for their ability to resist picking, bolt cutting, sawing and hitting. None could withstand a prolonged physical assault, but 13 did better that the others. The Abus 41/40 C/EF ($21.85) received the top rating.
