The best cars in the small family car class were the Audi A3 and Ford Focus. The Ford has good braking, there is plenty of room and the seats are comfortable. The Audi drives well and does not depreciate as fast as other cars. The best large family cars were the Audi A4, Ford Mondeo and Nissan Primera. The best superminis were the Nissan Micra, Ford Fiesta, Fiat Punto and Ford Ka. The top multi-purpose vehicles were the Citroen Synergie and Ford Galaxy. Problems with the Galaxy include poor visibility and disappointing reliability. The Synergie also has poor visibility.

The Renault Megane Scenic and VW Sharan were the best multi-purpose vehicles while, in the small family car section, the Renault Megane, Toyota Corolla and VW Golf were the best. None of the executive cars got a top rating.
