Paper handling

Article Abstract:

The majority of lower end laser printers have paper capacity of around 100-150 sheet input, although in some cases this can be increased. Certain high end machines have straight through paper paths and can print on paper up to 160gsm. Recycled paper use may lead to a reduction in efficiency and poor printer quality, due to the dust which can build up, although quicker engines and shorter paper paths can resolve the problems. Other features may include sorters, job separators, gauges, stapling facilities, and dual bins.

Buying and running

Article Abstract:

There are several ways to purchase a printer. Value added resellers (VARs) purchase equipment from manufacturers and sell to end-users, usually specializing in high-end equipment. Some dealers offer high levels of service, and mail order catalogues typically sell low-end printers and consumables. Warranties will vary depending on the printer and manufacturer, and extended warranty packages may be offered as optional extras. The three types of consumables are all-in-one, separates and toner-only.

Why laser?

Article Abstract:

Costs in the laser printer market are falling and there is a growth in functionality. Laser printers are often now linked to digital cameras and scanners. Laser printer technology is well suited to the networked environment. A drawback of the laser printer is that it does not print onto multi-part stationery, and some printers may be bulky. Flaking has also been highlighted as a potential problem.
