Power struggle: manufacturers tell you that your business can't survive without the latest technology

Processor chips are fast moving components in the PC industry and manufacturers argue that the customers are driving the need for faster processors. However faster processors are not always necessary.The processor market is virtually dominated by Intel, and its nw MMX chip technology aims to boost computer performance when running multimedia applications. A report examines the system architecture of a PC and the amount of memory required to run particular programs. The types of removable storage are detailed, such as floppy disks, zip drives and CD-Roms, and they types of operating systems are considered, including Windows 95. A purchasing guide is also provided.
