Product markings

Article Abstract:

An explanation is given for some of the symbols which may be found on consumer items. 'BEAB approved' is a guarantee of safety used on electrical equipment in the UK. 'BABT approved' means telecommunications equipment is safe. The Kitemark symbol also guarantees quality while CE Marking confirms that a product conforms to EU requirements. The Energy star symbol is used in the US to show that the product is energy efficient. The Double insulation symbol shows that the product has two layers of insulation and the Waterproof symbol will indicate how well an electrical item is protected from water.

Marks of approval

Article Abstract:

A food or drink endorsed by a professional organization or quality-assurance scheme is not necessarily better than similar products. In many cases, it is not clear to the consumer why the endorsement has been awarded. None of the products tested by Which? magazine gave any information about how to contact the organization granting the endorsement.
