Save a small fortune

Article Abstract:

An investigation of 48 financial advisers revealed that the quality of their advice varied. The investigators asked for advice on investing 300 pounds sterling each month. The 16 independent financial advisers in the survey group, particularly those who refrained from giving advice at the time of the consultation, gave the best advice. The 20 tied investors often suggested the right type of investment, but the range of products on offer was limited. The advisers from insurance companies offered poor advice. The solicitors and accountants did not generally give very good advice.

What a disaster

Article Abstract:

The government is being urged to re-examine ISA rules before the planned seven-year review. Isas are governed by complicated rules, which research has revealed are not fully understood by all financial advisers and bank and building society staff. The differences between the mini and maxi Isas and the implications of investing in a mini-Isa on later share investments were not explained by the majority of advisers.

Investment advisers

Article Abstract:

Investment advice is available from a large number of sources, although anyone giving such advice must be authorised under the Financial Services Act. Advisers, whether independent or tied, must be regulated by a recognised professional association such as the Law Society, or by self-regulating organisations such as FIMBRA or IMRO. Advice on the best way to ensure good financial guidance is discussed.
