Shop tactics

Article Abstract:

Many shops accept bargaining in 1993. Customers who talk about purchasing with cash and who state their target price get the best bargains. The value and disadvantages of offers are analysed. Shoppers rights regarding offers are explained. Free extras such as plugs, delivery and fitting are often available to those who ask for them. It is easier to obtain bargains in person than by telephone. Sometimes only the manager can negotiate discounts.

Where to shop for DIY

Article Abstract:

Do-It-Yourself shopping is not necessarily cheapest at superstores but longer opening hours and convenient parking are helpful. Sunday opening would be useful for DIY. High-street chains are cheaper for paint, wallpaper and tool kits. Builders' merchants are expensive but had a wider range of goods. Advice from sales assistants is improving but varies. Fads, Homebase and builders' merchants have helpful assistants readily available.

Ticket tactics

Article Abstract:

Potential rail travellers are advised to contact the National Rail Enquiry Service when looking for the best rail fares. The service offers nationwide information, times and fare prices, however, details of special offers may not be available and the information provided can be unreliable. Those seeking bargain fares are advised to book early, and check that single fares are not more expensive than return tickets.
