Three of the most popular software suites are evaluated: Corel WordPerfect Suite 8; Lotus SmartSuite 97 and Microsoft Office 97. Corel WordPerfect Suite 8 costs 359 pounds sterling and takes up 120 mega-bytes of hard disk space in a typical installation. It contains an extensive range of programs to challenge its rivals, including the photo-editing package Photo House. Microsoft Office is easy to use and has an extensive help system. The professional edition costs 523 pounds sterling.

Claris Filemaker Pro is a versatile, straightforward to use database well suited to home use or simple office functions.
