Chest freezers and upright freezers each have their own particular advantages although both are equally suitable for food freezing and storage. For the same storage volume, an upright freezer takes up far less wall space than a chest freezer, but chest freezers are better for storing items that are large or awkwardly-shaped. Points to consider when buying a freezer include the comfort of the door handle and whether an upright freezer can be used for storing large items by removing a basket. The few CFC-free freezers currently available are more expensive than comparable freezers that do contain CFCs.
