The three main business word processor packages are Lotus Word Pro, Novell WordPerfect 6.1 and Microsoft Word for Windows 7.0. Lotus Word Pro is an upgrade of Ami Pro 3.0 and has several changes, including an improved spell checker and more sophisticated ways of viewing documents. Microsoft Word for Windows 7.0 is the most popular word processing package. It is powerful and reliable and is unlikely to disappoint. Novell WordPerfect 6.1 has improved functionality and includes several useful tools, including a sophisticated data manipulation capability.

Three of the most popular 32-bit word processing packages are evaluated: Corel WordPerfect 8; Lotus WordPro and Microsoft Word 97. Wordperfect 8 is a flexible, straightforward product with an extensive range of utilities. However, Wordperfect 8 lacks on-line help support. Microsoft Word 97 is a good word processing package in comparison to its rivals. It is particularly popular because it is compatible with other Microsoft software products.

It requires at least eight megabytes of random access memory and 20 megabytes of hard disk space to run. Microsoft Word 97 costs 256 pounds sterling to purchase.
