Self-employed people benefit from better tax rules than the employed. Self-employed people can claim tax relief on more expenses, and pay lower rates of National Insurance contributions. Self-employed people can register for value added tax if their taxable supplies exceed 45,000 pounds sterling in a tax year. They must also pay business rates on premises.
