FRANCE: SIDEL UNVEILS PRODUCTIVITY RECORD
Article Abstract:
Sidel, which increased the productivity of its PET blowing machines by 50% over eight years, has unveiled a new record for its SBO Series2 equipment, which is now able to produce 1,500 bottles per mould each hour, for a machine worth between four and twenty moulds. This technical achievement results in a 7% increase in this machine's pace. The French PET packaging equipment maker will take advantage of the K2001 show in Germany (25 October to 1 November 2001) to present a machine with a production capacity of 15,000 bottles (50-cl format) per hour, dedicated to sparkling drinks. This machine allows to produce an additional 4mn bottles, on the basis of an utilisation period of 4,000 hours.

FRANCE: INTELLIGENT PACKAGING
Article Abstract:
Food companies are increasingly using intelligent packaging to provide greater service to consumers. Based on the fact that half of consumers do not read the directions on the packaging correctly, the Pilliwinx company has developed an innovative concept. It writes the directions on a magnetic card. Microwave oven producers must put magnetic card readers into their appliances, which automatically cooks the dish correctly. Another idea is to colour code the danger on the packaging, using thermochromic ink, which indicated the outside temperature of the packaging when it comes out of the microwave, preventing burns.
