FRANCE: THE AIMS OF CONVENIENCE FOOD SYSTEMS

Article Abstract:

A specialist in integrated convenience food preparation, treatment and packaging systems, Convenience Food Systems has decided to regroup all its activities in a new site located in the Beaucouze industrial zone, near Angers . Thanks to this regrouping, the French subsidiary of the Dutch group of the same name draws closer to the west of the country, a zone which contains 70% of its French client base. Convenience Food Systems also has the aim of becoming a service company. It envisages proposing classic on-site maintenance operations to its clients, notably preventative maintenance services. Equally, packaging is one of its priorities. This activity is expected to represent 75% of its international activity by 2001, from 50% in 1999. To achieve this, the group is counting on external growth and on specific packaging solutions.

FRANCE: INNOVATION IN PACKAGING

Article Abstract:

There were 620 patents in the packaging sector filed in France in 1998, including 560 for packaging, 64 for machines and 4 for labels. Packaging is a highly innovative sector; it ranks fifth among the top patent-filing sectors, and manufacturers allocate 4% of their turnover to research and development. At present innovations involve industrial processes more than packaging itself. In a highly competitive area, packaging manufacturers' strategy is based on innovation. Most of the developments in the packaging sector are made at client's requests. The new technologies, such as biotechnology electronics are used.
