Alpine and pre-Alpine magmatism in the root-zone of the western Central Alps

Article Abstract:

Rocks with the highest levels of metamorphism in orogenic zones may have been metamorphosed before the advent of orogenesis. The highest level of metamorphism in various crystalline nappes of the Lepontine Gneiss Dome, Central Alps, is of Hercynian and not Alpine age. Uranium-lead dating of zircon from migmatites and augengneisses indicates that magmatism originated from late-kinematic aplites and post-kinematic pegmatites. The U-Pb titanite ages of 33-31 Ma from felsic porphyritic veins reveal a minimum age of Alpine metamorphism.

Age and origin of magmatism along the Cenozoic Red River shear belt, China

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the geodynamic significance of Cenozoic magmatism along the Red River shear belt. Geochemical analyses, U-Pb, Rb-Sr dating, Pb-Sr-Nd isotope tracing were performed to carry out the analysis. Results indicated little contamination of the metls by continental material. Findings also suggested that lubrication correlates with the displacement absorbed in narrow shear zones such as the Red River shear belt.

Late Cenozoic magmatism of the Bolivian Altiplano

Article Abstract:

The geochemical characteristics of rocks sampled from the Bolivian Altiplano are derived primarily from the effects of multi-stage, heterogeneous crustal contamination which occurs during crystal fractionation. However, analysis of the geochemistry of rocks along the arc front reveal that this process was halted early. Results also reveal that crystallization and contamination patterns are uniform across the arc.
