Compositional re-equilibrium of fluid inclusions in quartz

Article Abstract:

A chemical communication occurs between fluid inclusions in quartz and the ambient fluid reservoir during laboratory re-equilibrium at high temperatures. The re-equilibrium rate is increased by the rise in stress, but the strain in the crystal host around the inclusions occurring due to large pressure gradients between the internal and confining fluids is not required for the compositional change. The differences in the chemical potentials causes the migration of hydrogen and oxygen.

Columbite solubility in granitic melts: consequences for the enrichment and fractionation of Nb and Ta in the Earth's crust

Article Abstract:

The effects of accessory phases on the enrichment and fractionation of niobium (Nb) and tantalum (Ta) in igneous systems are studied. Specifically, the solubility of pure synthetic manganocolumbite and manganotantalite in perkaline to peraluminous haplogranite melts at 800 to 1035 degrees Centrigrade and 800 to 5000 bars. A model of the fractionation of Nb and Ta between rutile and silicate melts is also developed.

Mobility and H(2)O loss from fluid inclusions in natural quartz crystals

Article Abstract:

Research on quartz crystals found in Mole Granite, Australia reveal information regarding post-entrapment changes regarding fluid inclusions. The authors find that these modifications can be attributed to deformation processes, and are more common in phenocrysts and vein quartz than free-standing crystals quartz.
