Computer models of early land plant evolution

Article Abstract:

Computer models are used to mimic the early evolution of ancient vascular plants, tracheophytes, comprising of three components. The resulting simulated adaptive walks indicate that early tracheophyte evolution involved optimizing the performance of many tasks simultaneously rather than maximizing the performance of one or only a few tasks individually, and that the requirement for optimization accelerated the tempo of morphological evolution in the Silurian and Devonian.

High-Mg andesites in the Setouchi volcanic belt, Southwestern Japan: Analogy to Archean magmatism and continental crust formation?

Article Abstract:

The knowledge pertaining to Setouchi HMAs (high-Mg andesites) is summarized and a comprehensive model for HMA Magna generation/differentiation and its implications for early Earth magmatism are presented. The examination of quantitatively two possible mechanisms for production of HMA magmas by geochemical modeling of dehydration, partial melting, and melt-solid reactions is also outlined.
