Eclogite-facies rocks in the Saxonian Erzgebirge, Germany: high pressure metamorphism under contrasting P - T conditions

Article Abstract:

Eclogitic remnants of the high-pressure metamorphic events in the Saxonian Erzgebirge, Germany were analyzed to determine pressure - temperature (P - T) conditions throughout the metamorphic sequence. P - T conditions were decreasing systematically over a 50 kilometer distance from the central region to the westernmost portion of the formation. The mineral composition of eclogite and the mineral assemblages resulting from metamorphism allowed for the reconstruction of the P - T gradient in the metamorphic sequence.

Eclogite facies relics and a multistage breakdown in metabasites of the KTB pilot hole, NE Bavaria: implications for the Variscan tectonometamorphic evolution of the NW Bohemian Massif

Article Abstract:

The complex features of metabasites are presented. Eclogite facies relics provide evidence for a multistage metamorphic history in the Variscan basement of the NW Bohemian Massif. Along this line, a multistage thrusting model, which emphasizes the role of kinetic factors, is presented. This model explains the multiple metamorphic reactivations along a smooth single pressure-temperature loop. Generally, the results shed important insights into the tectonometamorphic evolution of the region.

Phase relations in the greenschist-blueschist-amphibolite-eclogite facies in the system Na2O-CaO-FeO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O (NCFMASH), with application to metamorphic rocks from Samos, Greece

Article Abstract:

The petrogenetic grids of the model system Na2O-CaO-FeO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-H2O (NCFMASH), which is relevant for several greenschist, blueschist, amphibolite and eclogite facies rocks, were calculated to examine pressure/temperature- (PT) evolution of metabasic rocks from Samos, Greece. Results showed a clockwise PT-path, indicating cooling during exhumation of the rocks. Moreover, the rocks are probably related to high-pressure rocks found in the Menderes Massif in western Turkey.
