Thermochronologic constraints on the tectonic evolution of active metamorphic core complexes, D'Entrecasteaux Islands, Papua New Guinea

Article Abstract:

The metamorphic basement, or granodiorites, and shear zone rocks of D'entrecasteaux Island in Papua New Guinea show a rapid cooling of the orogenic belt. Active extension at the western end of the propagating Woodlark Basin leads to the formation of metamorphic core complexes. A thermochronologic study reveals that the gneisses found in the core of the dome is cooling rapidly and that the retrogression of the metamorphic basement movement on the outer shear zone coincides with emplacement of granodiorites. This has resulted in the formation and the unroofing of the domes in the north-south directed extension of the region.

Thermochronologic constraints on deformation and cooling history of high- and ultrahigh-pressure rocks in the Qinling-Dabie orogen, eastern China

Article Abstract:

Study of the ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) rocks of the Qinling-Dabie orogen, eastern China helps in the understanding of the dynamics of collision zones. The Hong'an block is the westward continuation of the Dabie Shan and contains a pseudostratigraphy that shows the geometry of tectonic denudation structures at the orogen. New (super40)Ar/(super39)Ar ages from fault and shear zones and cross cutting plutons are report, placing constraints on the timing of Mesozoic tectonism in the orogen, and cooling rates.
