Fluid evolution during metamorphism at increasing pressure: carbonic- and nitrogen-bearing fluid inclusions in granulites from Oksfjord, north Norwegian Caledonides

Article Abstract:

The Oksfjord area in the Caledonides of Norway records mineral thermobarometry of the increase in pressure during post-peak cooling. The numerous independently calibrated geothermometers, geobarometers and mineral equilibria quantify the three metamorphic stages. Fluid inclusions in cordierite, garnet and quartz are of three kinds, CO2 inclusion, N2 inclusions and mixed CO2-N2 inclusions. The composition and density characteristics of the inclusions present in the granulite facies rocks are compatible with the P-T conditions derived from geothermobarometry and mineral assemblages. During the metamorphic evolution from intermediate-P granule facies to the high-P granulite facies, the fluid inclusions are equilibrated according to density.

Pyrometamorphism and partial melting of shales during combustion metamorphism: mineralogical, textural and chemical effects

Article Abstract:

An analysis of metamorphosed Eocene shales is presented. The metamorphic process was generated by a naturally ignited coal seam. The shales serve as a record ofmineralogic and textural variations which conditioned melt development during pyrometamorphism. XRD, SEM and STEM techniques were applied to analyze samples found in the Powder River Basin in Wyoming. It is shown that vapor transport influenced the enrichment of melt stages in Fe, Ca, Mg and Mn.
