Numerical reconstruction of a soft-bedded Laurentide ice sheet during the last glacial maximum: comment

Article Abstract:

Existing geologic data attributed to Tyrrell in 1913 indicate that an ice dome may have existed southwest of Hudson Bay. This dome may not have been as big as the one reconstituted by P.U. Clark and his associates and which used the wrong ice margin for the western Lake Superior area. Their reconstruction describes maximum ice lobe limits that span the time range 20,000 to 14,000 14C yr B.P. This time margin is sufficient for modeling the Laurentide ice sheet but may not be enough when accounting for an ice dome in the western Lake Superior.

Deep Pleistocene iceberg plowmarks on the Yermak Plateau: sidescan and 3.5 kHz evidence for thick calving ice fronts and a possible marine ice sheet in the Arctic Ocean

Article Abstract:

A recent study has been criticized for making erroneous conclusions about deep-keeled icebergs in the past and their role in the formation of an extensive marine ice sheet in the Arctic Ocean. Moreover, the study failed to consider previous research which established the presence of deep-keeled tabular icebergs and deep plowmarks on Greenland's outlet glaciers. However, closer study reveals the existence of a large marine ice sheet in the Arctic Ocean in the past.

New constraints on the limits of the Barents-Kara ice sheet during the Last Glacial Maximum based on borehole stratigraphy from the Pechora Sea

Article Abstract:

Carbon-14 dating of stratigraphic samples permits the first reconstruction of the glacial history of the southeastern Barents Sea. The Last Glacial Maximum ice movement in this area was from the northeast before retreating approximately 13,000 years ago.
