Organic maturation in the French Subalpine Chains: regional differences in burial history and the size of tectonic loads

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the process of organic maturation in the French Subalpine Chains. The chains were produced by the continental collision between European and Italian-North african plates. Burial at great depths, which raised temperatures in some parts of the region, is tested by using vitrinite reflectance. Results show that burial depth is conditioned by the earlier initiation of the Tertiary foredeep and the variation in tectonic load size.

Tectonic evolution of the Cuvette Centrale, Zaire

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing the formation of the Cuvette Centrale in Zaire is presented. The central basin is composed of a sedimentary section extending to 9 km. The basin's Palaeozoic development is characterized by an early Palaeozoic and a late Palaeozoic deformation period. The deformation periods were generated by contraction. It is assumed that Africa and Gondwana experienced deformation processes caused by collision.

Seismic reflection images of intraplate deformation, central Indian Ocean, and their tectonic significance

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing geological data on the central Indian Ocean is presented. The ocean basin presents brittle formations which are charecterized using multichannel seismic reflection profiles. The oceanic basement possesses reflectors which are grouped into north-dipping and south-dipping reverse faults, lower-angle north reflectors and sub-horizontal reflectors.
