Oxygen and hydrogen isotope systematics of Lake Baikal, Siberia: implications for paleoclimate studies

Article Abstract:

Inputs from precipitation and influx from rivers and outputs from evaporation and outflow are not at a steady-state equilibrium in Lake Baikal, Siberia, according to modeling of the lake's isotopic mass balance. The evidence suggests cooler climates existed in the past. Hydrogen and oxygen isotope data were taken from water samples from the lake, its tributaries, other local rivers and local precipitation and interpreted in relation to the modern lake's known water budget. The lake has a uniform isotopic composition.

Stable isotope response to lake eutrophication: calibration of a high-resolution lacustrine sequence from Baldeggersee, Switzerland

Article Abstract:

Baldeggersee, a small, eutrophic lake in central Switzerland, has undergone major increases in eutrophication and productivity due to nutrient loading from industrialization and agriculture in the lake's watershed. A 108-year-old annually laminated freeze-core was analyzed for information on the environmental and climatological factors that control oxygen and carbon isotopic composition of precipitate.

Organisms' response in a chronically polluted lake supports hypothesized link between stress and size

Article Abstract:

The article focuses on the dependence of size distribution of diatoms, thecamoebians and cladocerans on lake pollution. The fossil remains analysis is presented.
