PT paths from modal proportions: application to the Koralm complex, Eastern Alps

Article Abstract:

The pressure and temperature mechanism of the formation of thermodynamically high variant metamorphic aggregation is investigated by the modal information. The information on the reaction process is used to contour pseudosections for modal informations of minerals through the software package THERMOCALC. Analysis of the Koralm complex on Eastern Alps reveals that part of the complex, before undergoing a Barrovian-type decompression path, has cooled in the early stage near isobarically from prevalent peak factors at about 700 degree centigrade and 14 kbar.

Stable and Sr-isotope evidence for fluid advection during thrusting of the Glarus nappe (Swiss Alps)

Article Abstract:

The mechanism behind the Glarus thrust in the Swiss Helvetic Alps is analyzed. Results show that calc-mylonite calcites of the Glarus thrust are systematically (18)O depleted by up to 14 percent with respect to marine carbonates. Moreover, the thrusting of the Glarus nappe is achieved by a combination of brittle and plastic deformation, and the alternation of brittle and plastic deformations is also responsible for the formation of the calc-mylonite horizon.

Fluid migration through thrust faults in the Helvetic nappes

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the synorogenic, mid-crustal hydrogeology of the Helvetic Alps, Switzerland. Based on the results of previous studies, new isotopic data for numerous thrust faults are presented with an emphasis on the basal thrust of the lowest Nappe, the Morcles/Doldenhorn nappe. There is little isotopic evidence to prove that large quantities of fluids passed through most of the carbonate-hosted thrusts in the Helvetic Alps.
