Population biology of a failed invasion: paleolimnology of Daphnia exilis in upstate New York
Article Abstract:
Population biology of a failed invasion has been studied in upstate New York, where paleolimnology of Daphnia exilis, a crustacean, is seen. The species is within the Daphnia similis species complex. Viable diapausing eggs are in sediments of Onandaga Lake in the region. Otherwise it is only found in temporary saline ponds in the southwest parts of North America. Introduction, successful colonization and disappearance from the water for the species are at the times of specific events in the history of industrial activity on the lakeshore and with their paleoecological records in sediment.

Spatial and temporal dynamics of major solute chemistry among Mackenzie Delta lakes
Article Abstract:
The spatial and temporal dynamics of solute chemistry is discussed in relation to research conducted at lakes in the Mackenzie Delta of the Canadian arctic. Topics include spatial analysis of flooding, temporal dynamics in selected lakes, evaporative concentration, solute exclusion effects, and implications.
