Flexural expression of European continental lithosphere under the western outer Carpathians

Article Abstract:

The flexural down bending of the European lithosphere under the western outer Carpathians was analyzed. Gravity data was used to obtain independent constraints. Recent uplift in the context of erosional features seen along the distal margin of the foredeep was quantified. A nonisotatic process is cited as the cause of the uplift.

Lithosphere folding: Primary response to compression?

Article Abstract:

The role of lithosphere folding in the large-scale evolution of the continental lithosphere was examined. It is indicated that lithospheric folding is a response of the lithosphere to recently induced compressional stress fields, and folding can persist independently of the presence of crustal faults and inherited weakness zones.
