Role of topography-induced gravitational stresses in basin inversion: the case study of the Pannonian basin

Article Abstract:

The Pannonian basin is used as a case study for research into the impact of gravitational forces on the stress pattern of an intramountain sedimentary basin. It is suggested that the recent, mainly strike-slip to compressive stress regime in the Pannonian basin is largely controlled by the northward drift and counterclockwise movement of the Adriatic microplate.

Dynamic modeling of the transition from passive to active rifting, application to the Pannonian basin

Article Abstract:

Research into several first-order characteristics of Pannonian basin development is presented. It is concluded that the driving forces for extensional and contractional deformation play a significant role in the sequence of events which characterize the Neogene evolution of the Pannonian basin system.

Rheology predictions across the western Carpathians, Bohemian massif, and the Pannonian basin: Implications for tectonic scenarios

Article Abstract:

The rheology of the lithosphere for certain sections through the Carpathians and surrounding areas was predicted based on extrapolation fo failure criteria, lithology and temperature models. Significant lateral variations in rheology for the different tectonic units were found, contrasting the rheologically strong lithosphere of the Polish Platform with the weak lithosphere of the Pannonian basin.
