The Ediacara biota: Neoproterozoic origin of animals and their ecosystems

Article Abstract:

The Ediacara biota includes a mixture of stem- and crown-group radical animals, stem group bilaterian animals and representatives of other eukaryotic kingdoms. However, the findings suggest that these soft-bodied organisms abruptly disappeared 542 million years ago due to mass extinction and biological interactions with the rapidly evolving animals of the Cambrian explosion.
