The golden anniversary celebration of the first tornado forecast

Article Abstract:

A three-day celebration commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first successful tornado forecasting was held in Tinker Air Force Base and Norman, OK, from March 23 to 25, 1999. The event, which was also carried out to celebrate the advances that have taken place in tornado forecasting and warning in the past 50 years, started with an open house of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Norman facilities. Sessions were also conducted which tackled past, current and future tornado forecasting.

Pikes Peak

Article Abstract:

John James was the guest speaker of the conference held by the American Meteorological Society in Pikes Peak on Dec 7, 1998. He is from the El Paso County Dept of Health and Environment. The topic he discussed was the air quality in Colorado Springs and the enhancements developed in air quality since the 1970s. He stressed that the improvements in air quality were attributed to the vehicle emission programs and the clean air standards.
