Ninth Joint Conference on Applications of Air Pollution Meteorology

Article Abstract:

The Ninth Joint Conference on Applications of Air Pollution Meteorology was held on Jan 28-Feb 2, 1996 at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, GA, as part of the 76th American Meteorological Society (AMS) Annual Meeting. The event was sponsored by the AMS and the Air and Waste Management Assn. Among the topics discussed were meteorology and air toxics, effects of complex terrain on air quality, long-range and mesoscale pollutant transport and fate, and meteorology in emissions determination.

Meeting summary: Wadati Conference on Global Change and the Polar Climate, 7-10 November 1995, Tsukuba, Japan

Article Abstract:

Attendees to the Wadati Conference on Global Change and Polar Climate which was held in Tsukuba, Japan, on Nov. 7010, 1995, addressed several major issues facing polar climate variations. These are the observational evidence of climate change, the processes underlying the interactions and feedbacks within the polar climate system, the paleoclimatic reconstruction of climate variations and the use of regional and global models in analyzing climate change.

Some considerations on the thermostat hypothesis

Article Abstract:

A symposium entitled 'Regulation of Tropical Sea Surface Temperatures and Warming of the Tropical Ocean Atmosphere System' was held on Jan. 18-19 in conjunction with the 75th Anniversary Meeting of the American Meteorological Society. It focused on evaluating the ability of the 'thermostat hypothesis' to explain the large-scale sea surface temperature observed in ocean-atmosphere interactions. Comparisons with the prevalent theory were made.
