Isaac Van der Hoven: 1923-1995

Article Abstract:

Isaac Van der Hoven began his career in meteorology as a weather observer while serving in the US Army in Austria. He obtained his college and doctorate degree in meteorology from the Pennsylvania State University and his masters degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After working for the Weather Bureau, he was assigned with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Air Resources Laboratory, where he served a total of 32 years.

Louis (Lou) O. Withrow: 1936-1995

Article Abstract:

Louis O. Withrow, the meteorologist-in-charge of the National Weather Service (NWS) office in Austin, TX, died on Dec. 12, 1995. He was born in Peach Orchard, MI, in 1936 and obtained his bachelors degree from Upper Iowa University in 1979. He joined the NWS in 1955 as an observer/forecaster with the US AIr Force in Korea and with military bases in the US. He retired in March 1995 after 40 years of dedicated service.
