Walter H. Hoecker: 1915-1994

Article Abstract:

Retired National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration meteorologist Walter H. Hoecker passed away on May 22, 1994. Hoecker majored in meteorology at the University of California in Los Angeles, CA. He joined the Weather Bureau in 1947 and was actively involved in many important meteorological studies. These included aircraft icing and in-cloud liquid water research, cloud seeding research and studies on severe storms. Hoecker is well-remembered not only for his significant contribution in the field but for his pleasant personality as well.

Leon "Stormy" M. Rottman (1918-1993)

Article Abstract:

Weathercaster Leon 'Stormy' M. Rottman was born in Chicago in 1918 and died in Denver, CO, on Jan 15, 1993. His stint in the Air Force includes World War Two and the Korean War. His function as weather forecaster earned him the name 'Stormy' in China. After his retirement from the Air Force, he did weather forecasts for numerous radio and television stations until his retirement in 1988. Among the awards he has received is the Broadcaster of the Year Award by the Colorado Broadcasters Association.

Gordon E. Dunn, 1905-1994

Article Abstract:

Gordon E. Dunn died on Sept. 12, 1994 after working 44 years with the Weather Bureau (WB). A lifelong weather enthusiast, Dunn was born on Aug. 9, 1905 in Brownsville, VT, and started his career in weather forecasting on May 1924 at the WB office in Providence, RI. Prior to his retirement in Jan. 1968, he was director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL, a post for which he was given the 1959 Gold Medal award by the Commerce Dept.
