A million off Incapacity Benefit: how achievable is Labour's target?

Article Abstract:

The UK Labour government welfare reform objectives of decreasing the number of people on incapacity benefit are analyzed using a model of flows on and off incapacity benefits and its effects on the stock of claimants. It is uncovered that without the targets are unachievable without a quick recovery of the economies of the North, Scotland and Wales.

Neo-liberalism and New Labour policy: economic performance, historical comparisons and future prospects

Article Abstract:

The inflation during the 1960s and 1970s as well as the replacement of Keynesian with neo-liberal economic policy are analyzed. It is revealed that the drop in inflation is explained by trends in import prices and not by the replacement of economic policy.
