ASEAN Framework Agreement on Services

Article Abstract:

The governments of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) endorsed the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Services, on Dec. 15, 1995, which contained 14 articles. The objectives of the agreement are to enhance cooperation, eliminate trade barriers, and liberalize trade in services. The major areas of cooperation are infrastructure development, industrial and commercial activities, research and development and information exchange. The agreement also incorporates further economic liberalization, negotiation of commitments, dispute settlement, and mutual recognition.

Article Abstract:

The governments of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) agreed to strengthen cooperation in intellectual property rights on December 15, 1995. The draft document on cooperation consists of 8 articles and incorporates objectives, principles and scope. The scope of cooperation has been marked in the fields of copyright, patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and related areas. The agreement aims to set up an institutional mechanism to review the cooperative activities and elaborate funding procedures for various activities.
