Achieving real environmental improvements using value: impact assessment

Article Abstract:

Sustainable development is a key issue for business and industry and needs to be approached systematically. It offers businesses the opportunity for long-term profit development. Many industries need to re-examine their aims, objectives and environmental constraints. This will mean change using impact assessment which allows consideration of the commercial value of a product in relation to its environmental consequences. Risk assessment should be undertaken first. Environmental impact consists of an analysis of the lifecycle of the product from raw material to the disposal stage.

The single market: its impact on six industries

Article Abstract:

The impact of the realization of a Single European Market in 1992 is expected to vary widely among six industries: pork processing, cheese, fresh milk products, machine tools, plastic components and plastic packaging. The prospect of globalization will compel the pork industry to emphasize brand awareness, while the plastics industry will become centralized. Ultimately, the ability of European business to respond to markets demands and create the appropriate changes will prove more important than present company size.
