Lobbying for effective environmental assessment

Article Abstract:

Environmental assessment (EA) is regarded as an effective tool for ensuring environmentally sustainable development in the future. However, EA needs to have a secure quality control framework in order to be effective. The establishment of a regulatory agency to oversee EA is thus deemed imperative. A distinction is also made between government policy appraisal and EA, which is viewed as the best means of incorporating the environment into the decision-making process.
