Healthy lifestyle and safety: an expected net benefit approach to seat belt use

Article Abstract:

There is a strong link between a healthy lifestyle and the use of seatbelts. Lawrence Johnson & Associates, Inc. found that consumers who are non-smokers, practice dental care habitually and exercise regularly are more prone to use seatbelts. Significant variables include age, gender and education. Of these, education has the highest impact on seatbelt use. These findings may be of significance to insurance policy-makers. These can also provide a clearer target for those who are developing health promotion programs.
