An All-Too-Public Crime

Article Abstract:

The trial of four Portuguese-Americans for rape in Fall River, Massachusetts has raised concerns for the local Portuguese community, women's groups and rape victims. The Portuguese-Americans feared the effects of bad publicity, although they determined that the defendants had received a fair trial. The revelation of the victim's personal life during the trial angered supporters of women's rights. The issue of disclosing a rape victim's name is controversial particulary in the event of televised trials.

ET Against the Bomb

Article Abstract:

Since the 1940s, the United States and the West have emphasized nuclear weapons over large standing armies. However, the use of nuclear weapons grows increasingly distasteful. New deep strike weapons, ET or emergency technology, have been developed as an alternative. Proposals are made to make the adoption of ET by the United States and the West feasible.
