An experimental examination of intrinsic values as a source of the WTA-WTP disparity

Article Abstract:

The support for the theory that losses have more value than gains suggests that the disparity between WTA is greater than WTP by a factor of two. Research on environmental goods has shown disparities of factors of greater than 10. The role of intrinsic values in the treatment of environmental commodities was studied. An experiment using Norfolk Island pines as environmental goods was conducted to determine whether individuals would preserve a natural resource even if they did not obtain any use value from it.
