Birth-date dependent population ethics: critical-level principles

Article Abstract:

Principles related to birth-date dependent population were assessed under an intertemporal framework that is characterized by varying population sizes. The analysis involved weakening of the Pareto principle to make birth dates of individuals vital in determining a social ordering. The population principles were represented with a recursive structure through the utilitization of the axiom independence of the utilities of the dead.

Price-independent welfare prescriptions and population size

Article Abstract:

Some of the results of K. Roberts' extension of the price-independent welfare prescriptions to alternatives supporting differences in population size and composition invite comment. Sensible price-independent welfare prescriptions are not feasible during changes in population size and composition across alternatives. In addition, the existence of critical levels support the neutrality of such prescriptions.
