Workers fear that the Ford Motor Corporation plans to close its foundry at the British Dagenham plant. It would mean the loss of 2000, with an eventual total of 4000 jobs. Workers fear the plant may be converted to an assembly operation.

Sale in March - To GM?

Article Abstract:

British Leyland (BL) plans to sell subsidiary Jaguar Cars by March 1984. Although some would prefer British ownership, United States General Motors (GM) is making a tempting offer. A public offer of Jaguar equity is another solution.

Britain's Jaguar Cars has signed a contract with Dainichi Kiko and Dainichi Sykes Robotics. Jaguar hopes to initiate automation with industrial robots. The deal advances the state of robotics in Europe.
