Conditional demands and marginal tax reform

Article Abstract:

Demand systems in Ireland are examined in the midst of the existence of conditional demand variables such as employment levels and unemployment rates. The problems concerning weak separability between labor and goods which is present in common demand analyses is accounted for in the process. Results are congruent with the empirical findings of Deaton (1981) and Stoker (1986) and show that homogeneity is significantly affected by tests for separability. Marginal tax reforms are shown to be influenced by the choice of the conditioning variables and the presence or absence of homogeneity.
