Construction capital to flow into low-income apartments

Article Abstract:

The number of unsubsidized low-income apartments in the US has been gradually dwindling, dropping by 38% between 1974 and 1973, as revealed by a report issued by the Department of Housing and Development. Despite the implementation of Low-Income-Housing Tax Credit, availability of affordable housing units continue to decrease as rental income fails to cover the cost of developing such properties. Such problems prompted Freddie Mac to provide funding for the construction of new housing-credit properties.

Proposed GSE purchase goals

Article Abstract:

The Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has developed performance goals for its affordable housing programs for low- to middle-income families as a response to the Administration's call to expand national home ownership. In particular, the goals were especially designed for the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. and the Federal National Mortgage Assn. For example, HUD's goals, which are not yet finalized, call for low- to moderate-income mortgage purchase rates of 30% from each lender.
