Critical survey: Growth, trade and uneven development

Article Abstract:

The theories of growth and international trade are reviewed critically from the perspective of understanding persistent inter-country and inter-regional income inequality. Three separate literatures are considered to explain the income gap between rich and poor nations as they offer insights about international disparity.

This article shows how one can find a stimulating analysis of the equilibria that characterize agrarian and industrial society. The conditions that make institutional change possible from one equilibrium to another are highlighted.

Bargaining power, effective demand and technical progress: a Kaleckian model of growth

Article Abstract:

A demand-led growth model, which endogenises the distribution of income, is presented. The central feature of interdependence of income distribution and capital accumulation is discussed.
