Discussion: comment on: institutional causes, macroeconomic symptoms: volatility, crises and growth

Article Abstract:

Research on how public institutions affect the macroeconomics of a country indicate that political crises and macreconomic policies are institutionally driven. Weak institutions will affect the economic performance of a country. The research finds that institutions influence economic volatility, although the channel through which this occurs is not identified.

Institutional causes, macroeconomic symptoms: volatility, crises and growth

Article Abstract:

This study of country economic development in the postwar period determined that countries having more 'extractive' institutions inherited from colonial pasts were more likely to experience economic crises and high volatility in their economies. The researchers interpret this result to show the causal effect political institutions have on economic results.

Tropics, germs, and crops: how endowments influence economic development

Article Abstract:

This economics study focuses on whether economic development relies on geographic features such as climate and ecology through institutions or policies, finding that development is affected through institutions. This is a cross-country study of Burundi and Canada.
