Does culture matter in inter-firm cooperation? Research consortia in Japan and the USA

Article Abstract:

Joint research ventures between industries can provide benefits for both firms involved. Such inter-firm ventures can assist in financing for expensive proposals, minimize risks, eliminate unnecessary duplication, facilitate the use of firm-specific resources, and control research spillover. While joint research practices have been the norm in Japanese industries, results indicate that economic forms of cooperation in US industries can be equally as proficient and possibly more flexible than their Asian counterparts.

Endogenous R&D spillovers and locational choice with discriminatory pricing

Article Abstract:

R&D spillovers are endogenously determined as they depend on the distance at which firms choose to locate. A spatial price discrimination model is presented, which examines the empirical literature on diversification.
