Don't Shoot the Messenger

Article Abstract:

Union demonstrations in November 1983 against the Stockport Messenger print works became quite violent. At issue was the hiring of non-union workers. The National Graphical Association (NGA) wants a closed shop. The NGA refused to comply with court orders. A strike halted newspaper publishing for two days. The NGA is hoping for public support.

The violent confrontation at Britain's Messenger Group print works in November 1983 between management and the National Graphical Association is described. Owner Eddie Shaw is being personally attacked with a hate campaign. His workforce is loyal.
