The current political situation in South Africa is presented. A constitutional reform referendum was approved in November. The African National Congress (ANC) is under growing pressure as an exiled movement. The parties are realigning, but the central issue of race has yet to be dealt with.

Article Abstract:

South Africa is pursuing a policy of raiding its hostile neighbors to bring them to the negotiating table. It is in South Africa's interest to settle, particularly in Namibia. Constitutional changes at home allowing more freedom to coloreds and Indians are going to be expensive.

Troublelands

Article Abstract:

Recent reports indicate that conditions may be even worse for rural South African blacks in the 'Homelands' than those in the cities. Tribal administrations are full of tyranny and corruption. A bus boycott in Ciskei is used as an example.
