Economic Policy and the Third Way

Article Abstract:

Australia's Federal Labor Party can help the nation solve its socioeconomic woes through structural application of the Third Way. The Third Way integrates practical economic practices with social values to alleviate inefficiency and poverty. Its principals include investments in education, international cooperation, encouragement of private savings, and devolving social services into mutual and voluntary associations.

Towards a Hard-Headed but Soft-Hearted Approach to Economic and Social Policy: Comments on the Books by Fred Argy and Mark Latham

Article Abstract:

New, successful theories for Australia's socioeconomic reform will continue to reserve a role for the government. While the government's participation should not be on the same scale as other state-run models, neither should it be entirely absent. By incorporating tenets of both progressive liberalism and radical free market policies, Australia can develop a socially responsible form of enterprise.
